Originally released in 1989, Like a Prayer was considered Madonna's most personal record to date, with lyrics touching on religion, family and her own upbringing. The title track blended pop with gospel and a choir, and its video caused considerable controversy. The album also includes 'Express Yourself' and 'Cherish'. She wrote and produced most of it with Patrick Leonard and Stephen Bray.
