Powerwolf

Powerwolf formed in 2004 in Saarbrücken, started by members of the stoner rock band Red Aim and fronted by classically trained singer Attila Dorn, whom the Greywolf brothers met while on holiday in Romania. The band ties German power metal to church organ, Latin choirs and lyrics about werewolves, vampires and religious history, performed in corpse paint at shows the band itself calls a heavy metal mass. After the debut Return in Bloodred (2005) and the concept album Lupus Dei (2007), Bible of the Beast became the first Powerwolf album to enter the German charts in 2009. Preachers of the Night reached number 1 there in 2013, a position later repeated by The Sacrament of Sin (2018) and Wake Up the Wicked (2024).

Alongside the studio records the band built a catalogue of its own: the covers album Metallum Nostrum, the Missa Cantorem records on which guest singers reinterpret the repertoire, and large-scale live releases such as The Monumental Mass and Wildlive.
