Prince & The Revolution

Prince & The Revolution was the band Prince made his best-known albums with in the mid-1980s. The name already appeared in mirror writing on the sleeve of 1999, but it was Purple Rain (1984) that first put it on the front cover. With Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Matt Fink, Brown Mark, and Bobby Z., the sound moved from funk and new wave into something wider: the rock guitar and gospel choirs of Purple Rain, the psychedelic turn of Around the World in a Day (1985), and the horns, strings, and French flavour of Parade (1986), with the number one single "Kiss". Purple Rain won two Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score, and sits at number 8 on the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list Rolling Stone published in 2020. Prince dissolved the band in October 1986 after the Parade tour; he died on 21 April 2016.
