Ramones

The Ramones formed in 1974 in Forest Hills, Queens, and stripped rock and roll back to the bare minimum: two-minute songs, three chords, no solos, counted in with "1-2-3-4". Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy all took the surname Ramone without being related. The 1976 debut and the quick succession of Leave Home and Rocket to Russia set the blueprint for punk rock, and their July 1976 show at London's Roundhouse gave the British punk scene a push. Road to Ruin followed with "I Wanna Be Sedated", then the Phil Spector-produced End of the Century and a run of Sire albums that carried the band to its farewell concert in 1996. Along the way they played more than 2,200 shows. The band entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
