Benefit, originally released in 1970, sounds darker and heavier than the exuberant Stand Up that preceded it. John Evan came in on piano and organ, at first still as a session player, and Martin Barre and Ian Anderson stacked acoustic and electric guitars on top of one another. 'To Cry You a Song', 'Nothing to Say' and the light-footed 'Inside' are among the best known tracks, and 'For Michael Collins, Jeffrey and Me' picked up on the moon landing of the year before. The lyrics are largely about the music industry and life on the road, which the title winks at. This edition is an LP on 180 gram vinyl with Steven Wilson's 2013 stereo remix.
