The Beach Boys was the first album the group made after Dennis Wilson's death in December 1983, and it is dedicated to him. Producer Steve Levine, known for his work with Culture Club, took the band into the digital recording technology of the day, with sessions in London and Los Angeles. Getcha Back became the best known single, Stevie Wonder wrote I Do Love You, and Boy George and Roy Hay contributed Passing Friend. The self-titled album originally dates from 1985.
