Simply Red

Simply Red formed in Manchester in 1985 around singer Mick Hucknall. The debut Picture Book delivered Money's Too Tight (To Mention) and Holding Back the Years, which topped the American chart in the summer of 1986. Stars (1991) reached the band's widest audience, and was the best-selling album in the United Kingdom two years running. Hucknall kept mixing soul, pop and reggae on records such as Blue and Home, with covers of The Hollies and Gregory Isaacs alongside his own writing. A farewell tour followed in 2010, the band returned in 2015, and in 2025 Simply Red marked forty years with the album Recollections and a world tour.
