This compilation accompanies The Virgin Suicides, Sofia Coppola's directorial debut from 2000, based on the novel by Jeffrey Eugenides and set in a Detroit suburb in the 1970s. The soundtrack draws on music from that decade, with artists including Heart, Electric Light Orchestra, 10cc, Todd Rundgren and Styx. The songs reflect the atmosphere of the era in which the film is set. Playground Love by the French duo Air also appears on the compilation; Air additionally created the separate, original film score.
