More than thirty years after Stardust, Willie Nelson returned to the American songbook. American Classic originally appeared in 2009 as his first solo album for Blue Note, produced by Tommy LiPuma, with string arrangements by Johnny Mandel and a band built around pianist Joe Sample, bassist Christian McBride, drummer Lewis Nash, and Nelson's longtime harmonica player Mickey Raphael. Norah Jones sings on Baby, It's Cold Outside and Diana Krall on If I Had You; around them stand standards such as Fly Me to the Moon, Ain't Misbehavin', and Angel Eyes, plus a fresh reading of Always on My Mind. The album reached number 13 on the Billboard 200 and number 5 on the US country albums chart. This edition is an LP.
