Nine Lives, Aerosmith's twelfth studio album, originally appeared in 1997 after a difficult run-up: the band fired its manager, scrapped a first set of recordings made with producer Glen Ballard, and started again with Kevin Shirley. Drummer Joey Kramer dropped out during the sessions, so session drummer Steve Ferrone played on several tracks. The album entered the Billboard 200 at number one; Pink won the band a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, alongside singles such as Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees) and Hole in My Soul. The original sleeve, which used Hindu imagery, was changed after protests. Later editions added I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, the ballad from the film Armageddon.
