Cassadaga takes its name from a village in Florida inhabited by mediums and spiritualists, and that atmosphere of fortune telling and American mysticism runs through the whole album. Bright Eyes brought in strings, pedal steel and horns, giving Conor Oberst's folk songs a broader, almost orchestral shape. "Four Winds", "Hot Knives" and the closing "Lime Tree" are its best known tracks. Originally released in April 2007 on Saddle Creek, the album entered the Billboard 200 at number four, the band's highest chart position.
