True Romance was Charli XCX's debut album, originally released in 2013, the year she broke through as co-writer and featured vocalist on Icona Pop's I Love It. The album offered a dark strain of synthpop with influences from gothic pop, electro and hip-hop, produced largely by Ariel Rechtshaid. Singles including Stay Away, Nuclear Seasons, You (Ha Ha Ha) and What I Like marked the release. Although True Romance was not a major commercial hit at the time, the album went on to become a cult favorite in the years that followed.
