Young Americans was a David Bowie album that originally came out in 1975. Bowie traded glam rock for American soul and funk, a style later dubbed 'plastic soul', recording part of the album at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia. A young Luther Vandross provided backing vocals and arrangements. The title track became a hit. Fame, co-written with John Lennon and Carlos Alomar, became Bowie's first US number one hit. Lennon also appeared on the cover of Across the Universe. Young Americans paved the way for the later Station to Station.
