Stakes Is High, originally from 1996, was the first De La Soul album without Prince Paul as producer. The group handled production themselves and brought in J Dilla, among others, who made the title track. The lyrics take aim at the hardening and the commercialism of the rap of that moment, with Mos Def and Common as guests; Itzsoweezee (HOT) became the second single.
