Around the Fur sounds harder and more direct than the Deftones debut: Stephen Carpenter's downtuned riffs, Abe Cunningham's drums high in the mix, and Chino Moreno switching from a whisper to a scream within a single song. The second studio album originally appeared in October 1997 through Maverick Records and was recorded with producer Terry Date at Studio Litho in Seattle. My Own Summer (Shove It) and Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) went on to become fixtures in the live set. Max Cavalera of Sepultura and Soulfly guests on Headup.
