Some Great Reward continued the industrial course of Construction Time Again, but with sharper lyrics. Master and Servant frames power relations as a sadomasochistic metaphor, Blasphemous Rumours tells of a girl who survives a suicide attempt only to die in an accident, and Somebody is a bare piano song sung by Martin Gore. The fourth studio album, originally from 1984, delivered the band's first American hit in People Are People, which reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
