Brothers in Arms was Dire Straits' fifth studio album, released in 1985. It was recorded at AIR Studios on Montserrat, built around Mark Knopfler's refined guitar playing. The production had a polished, partly digital sound, a new direction for the band. Money for Nothing, featuring guest vocals from Sting, became a US number one hit and received a groundbreaking animated video on MTV. Walk of Life, So Far Away and the title track were also among the album's best-known songs. The material ranged from ironic commentary on the music industry to a war-inspired closing track. Brothers in Arms topped charts worldwide and became one of the best-selling albums of the 1980s.
