Duran Duran was the self-titled 1981 debut by the British band of the same name and one of the defining records of the new romantic movement. Producer Colin Thurston bound the guitars and the danceable bass and synthesizer lines into a tight pop sound. Singles such as "Planet Earth," "Girls on Film" and "Careless Memories" carried the group straight into the British charts. With this record the Birmingham band established its early reputation.
