The Open Door was the first Evanescence album without co-founder Ben Moody, and Amy Lee took clearer charge of the music. With guitarist Terry Balsamo and producer Dave Fortman she expanded the gothic rock of Fallen with choirs, piano and orchestral arrangements, as on Lacrymosa, which draws on Mozart's Requiem. Call Me When You're Sober, Lithium, Sweet Sacrifice and Good Enough were released as singles. On release in 2006 the band's second studio album entered the Billboard 200 at number one.
This edition is a CD, the 20th anniversary edition with four bonus tracks, including an unreleased demo of Good Enough.
