An eighteen-year-old Françoise Hardy recorded her first album at the Vogue studio in Villetaneuse, backed by Roger Samyn and his orchestra. It originally appeared in November 1962 without a title, carrying only her name on the sleeve, and has been known ever since by its opening track Tous les garçons et les filles, which she wrote with Samyn and which spent fifteen weeks at number one in France. The record also holds Le temps de l'amour, built on an instrumental by Jacques Dutronc, alongside her own compositions J'suis d'accord and Il est parti un jour. Hardy sang about shyness, being alone, and young longing, in two-minute songs carried by acoustic guitar and a lightly swinging beat. Writing most of her own material at eighteen was unusual in French pop in 1962. AllMusic reviewer Stewart Mason describes her singing here as "an attractive but chilly drop-dead monotone".
