The Grand Wazoo comes from the same recovery period as Waka/Jawaka, when Frank Zappa could not perform after his fall at the Rainbow Theatre and threw himself into arranging. He wrote for a big band with a wide brass and reed section around a core of George Duke, Aynsley Dunbar and Sal Marquez. 'Eat That Question' opens with an electric piano solo from Duke and moves into a guitar solo, while 'Blessed Relief' closes in a calmer, almost cool-jazz mood. The title piece is among the longest instrumental compositions Zappa recorded in those years. The album originally appeared in November 1972 on Bizarre and Reprise Records. This edition is an LP.
