The soundtrack to Zappa, the documentary Alex Winter released in 2020 after the Zappa Family Trust granted him access to the complete archive. The selection follows the film: alongside familiar pieces from Zappa's catalogue there are previously unreleased recordings, his 1978 appearance on Saturday Night Live, work by Edgard Varèse, the composer he discovered as a teenager, and by Igor Stravinsky, plus score music John Frizzell wrote specially for the documentary. The running order moves from the early years with The Mothers of Invention to the orchestral work of his final period, taking in interview fragments and live recordings from venues including the Whisky a Go Go, Fillmore West and the Palladium. This edition is a 2-LP on clear vinyl with an abridged selection.
