On 30 May 1970 The Jimi Hendrix Experience played two sets at the Berkeley Community Theatre, while thousands of fans without tickets were left standing outside. Magic Boy captures the first of those two shows, with Hendrix alongside Mitch Mitchell on drums and Billy Cox on bass. Front-of-house engineer Abe Jacob recorded the concert on tape, and Eddie Kramer, the Experience's regular recording engineer, made a new mix from the original multitracks. The setlist runs from 'Fire' and a cover of 'Johnny B. Goode' through 'Machine Gun' and 'Red House' to 'Star-Spangled Banner', 'Purple Haze' and 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)'. Individual Berkeley songs appeared earlier on Rainbow Bridge and Hendrix in the West, and the recordings of the second show were released in 2003 as Live at Berkeley. This live album was released on 16 October 2026 via Experience Hendrix and Legacy Recordings.
This edition is a 2-LP.
