Coltrane 'Live' at the Village Vanguard was John Coltrane's first live album and the first album of his to feature the full classic quartet with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones. The tapes come from a run of nights at the New York club in November 1961, where Eric Dolphy sat in as well. 'Chasin' the Trane' fills an entire side with more than a quarter of an hour of unbroken tenor over a blues; alongside it stand the modal pieces 'Spiritual' and 'Greensleeves'. On its original 1962 release through Impulse!, the album set off a long argument in the jazz press about the direction Coltrane was taking.

This edition is an LP in a limited pressing.
