"Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" was the line Cash opened his shows with, and it became the title of this album of 1969 recordings, produced by Bob Johnston. The album, originally released in 1970 on Columbia, reached number one on the US country chart and number 6 on the Billboard 200. The duet "If I Were a Carpenter" with June Carter Cash won the couple a Grammy, and "See Ruby Fall", which Cash wrote with Roy Orbison, charted as a double A-side with "Blistered". With "To Beat the Devil" Cash recorded a Kris Kristofferson song for the first time. The band includes Carl Perkins on guitar and Norman Blake on dobro.
