Producer Martin Hannett took Joy Division apart and put the band back together differently: he recorded the drums piece by piece, pushed everything through digital delay and left space where the four of them played hard and fast on stage. That is how the Manchester band's debut album sounds, with 'Disorder', 'She's Lost Control', 'New Dawn Fades' and 'Shadowplay'. Peter Saville built the sleeve around a radio graph of the pulsar CP 1919, taken from an astronomy handbook. The original album came out in 1979 on Factory Records. The second disc holds a concert from The Factory in Manchester on 13 July 1979. This edition is a CD.
