Five musicians from Bakersfield spent a month at Indigo Ranch in Malibu in 1994, with Ross Robinson producing. The self-titled debut set the blueprint for nu metal: seven-string guitars from Munky and Head tuned lower than usual, Fieldy's bass working more like percussion than accompaniment, and Jonathan Davis switching between muttering, scatting, and screaming. Blind opens with the shouted "Are you ready?", Shoots and Ladders runs nursery rhymes through bagpipes, and Daddy ends in a take where Davis audibly breaks down. The album originally came out in October 1994 through Immortal and Epic Records and produced four singles: Blind, Need To, Shoots and Ladders, and Clown. It was certified gold in the United States a little over a year after release. This edition is a 2-LP.
