Metal Machine Music is an album by American musician Lou Reed, originally released in 1975. The album consists entirely of layers of guitar feedback and noise, without conventional songs, melodies or vocals. It was a radical break from Reed's earlier work with The Velvet Underground and his solo hits, and on release was seen both as a provocation and as a serious experiment. Over the years the album's influence on noise, drone and experimental music grew. It is regarded as one of the most uncompromising releases in rock history.
