On 7, Madness sound less like a ska band and more like a British pop group with a dark undertow. Grey Day opens on a grey organ theme about the grind of commuting, Shut Up is the monologue of a lying small-time crook, and in Cardiac Arrest a man collapses on his way to the office. Mike Barson's keyboards and Lee Thompson's saxophone keep it light enough for the charts: the third studio album reached number five in Britain. It originally appeared in 1981 on Stiff Records.

This edition is a 180g LP on black vinyl, with liner notes by Stevie Chick.
