After Madness broke up in 1986, Suggs, Chas Smash, Lee Thompson and Chris Foreman carried on in 1988 under the name The Madness. The self-titled album leans on the tightly produced pop and soul of the period, with I Pronounce You as its single alongside Nail Down the Days, In Wonder and Gabriel's Horn. Without keyboard player Mike Barson and drummer Woody Woodgate the group sounds smoother and less boisterous than the seven-piece line-up. The album made little impression on the charts and the project was short lived; the full line-up only shared a stage again at Madstock in 1992. It originally appeared in 1988 on Virgin Records.
