Misplaced Childhood, originally from 1985, took Marillion to the top of the UK albums chart and turned a neo-progressive band into an act for a mass audience. The third studio album is a continuous concept piece, loosely based on the childhood of singer Fish, recorded at Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin with producer Chris Kimsey. Both sides run without a break, with Kayleigh and Lavender as shorter, melodic anchors between the longer passages. Kayleigh reached number two on the UK singles chart and Lavender number five. In 2003 Classic Rock named it the fourth greatest concept album of all time. This edition is an LP.
