For Dangerous, originally released in 1991, Michael Jackson left Quincy Jones behind and worked mainly with Teddy Riley, one of the architects of new jack swing. You hear it straight away in the hard, programmed beats of "Jam" and "Remember the Time". There are rock-leaning tracks too, such as "Black or White" and "Give In to Me", both with guitar work by Slash, and big ballads like "Heal the World" and "Will You Be There". "Black or White" went to number one in the United States and the United Kingdom. At fourteen songs, Dangerous is the longest studio album in Jackson's catalogue.
