The second studio album took Mötley Crüe from the clubs on the Sunset Strip to American arenas. Shout at the Devil set down the sound the band kept using for the rest of the decade: war paint and pentagrams on the sleeve, thick gang vocals and Mick Mars riffs on "Looks That Kill" and "Too Young to Fall in Love". Nikki Sixx wrote almost all of the material and gave the album a harder, more metal-leaning side than the debut. The take on The Beatles' "Helter Skelter" also appeared as a separate single. The album reached number 17 on the Billboard 200 and became the commercial turning point of the band's career.
