In the autumn of 1997 Muse spent five days at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall recording ten songs with producer Paul Reeve. Four of them ended up on this self-titled debut EP, originally released on 11 May 1998 by the independent label Dangerous Records, in an edition of 999 hand-numbered copies. On 'Overdue', 'Cave', 'Coma' and 'Escape' the trio from Teignmouth still sounds raw and searching, with the falsetto vocals and piano lines that would later become their signature. Three of the four songs were re-recorded for the debut album Showbiz, while 'Coma' turned up as the B-side of the single 'Cave'. Drummer Dominic Howard made the sleeve himself, from three photocopied sections of his own face.

This edition is a 12-inch on translucent neon red vinyl, pressed for Record Store Day.
