With Freedom, originally released in 1989, Neil Young returned to form after an uneven decade; the album was seen as his major comeback. It opens and closes with two versions of 'Rockin' in the Free World' — one acoustic and one electric — which grew into one of his best-known songs. In between sit both quiet songs and hard-hitting rock, including the lengthy 'Crime in the City'. The record marked the start of a productive new phase in his career.
