Movement came out of a band that had just lost its singer: after the death of Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris carried on in 1980 as New Order. The debut was recorded in the spring of 1981 at Strawberry Studios in Stockport, with Joy Division producer Martin Hannett at the desk, and originally appeared in November of that year on Factory Records. The cavernous drums and cold bass of 'Dreams Never End', 'ICB' and 'Doubts Even Here' still sit close to the post-punk that came before; the vocals are split between Sumner and Hook, both still feeling out their role. Only on the standalone singles from the same period, 'Ceremony' and "Everything's Gone Green", does the electronic direction the band would later take become audible. This edition is an LP.
