Yield originally dates from February 1998. For this fifth studio album Pearl Jam spread the writing across the whole band again: Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Mike McCready all contributed songs, instead of everything resting on Eddie Vedder. The sessions took place in 1997 at Studio Litho and Studio X in Seattle, with Brendan O'Brien at the desk and Jack Irons on drums. 'Given to Fly' spent six weeks at number one on the US Mainstream Rock chart, and for 'Do the Evolution' comic artist Todd McFarlane made an animated clip — an exception in years when the band barely released any videos. The album entered the Billboard 200 at number two.
