A Day At The Races originally appeared in 1976 and is regarded as the sister album to A Night At The Opera: Queen recorded it without an outside producer and gave it a related sleeve and feel. It ranges from the hard rock of Tie Your Mother Down to the gospel-tinged single Somebody To Love, alongside Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy and the partly Japanese-language closer Teo Torriatte. The Washington Post described the album at the time as "a judicious blend of heavy metal rockers and classically influenced, almost operatic, torch songs". In the United Kingdom it reached number one.
