Green was the first album R.E.M. made for Warner Bros., after six years on I.R.S. Records, and originally appeared in 1988 on the day of the American presidential election. Light pop songs such as Stand and Pop Song 89 sit next to more political material: Orange Crush deals with the effects of the defoliant Agent Orange in Vietnam, and World Leader Pretend was the only song whose lyrics Michael Stipe had printed on the sleeve. The band swapped instruments on several of the songs, which gave mandolin and keyboards more room. The tour that followed took R.E.M. into arenas for the first time. This edition is an LP.
