Monster is the ninth studio album by the American band R.E.M. and originally came out in 1994. After the more restrained albums that preceded it, the group chose a louder, distorted guitar sound with glam rock influences. Well-known singles include "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?", "Bang and Blame" and "Strange Currencies". The lyrics play with themes of identity, desire and public persona.
