First Take originally appeared in 1969 as the debut album by Roberta Flack, released on Atlantic. The record blends soul with jazz, folk and gospel and includes 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'. That song was featured in Clint Eastwood's 1971 film Play Misty for Me, after which it reached number one in the United States in 1972 and belatedly took the album to the top of the Billboard 200.
