Beneath the Remains, originally released in 1989, is the album that broke Sepultura outside Brazil. It was recorded between 15 and 28 December 1988 at Nas Nuvens in Rio de Janeiro with American producer Scott Burns, who came down to Brazil for the sessions. The result is fast, tightly played thrash; Inner Self, Mass Hypnosis and Stronger Than Hate stayed on the setlist for decades. This edition is a 2-LP: the first record holds the remastered original album, the second the Rio mixdown recordings and a live track taped at the Zeppelinhalle on 22 September 1989.
