Reign in Blood is the third studio album by Slayer, originally released in 1986. It was the band's first album for Def Jam and their first collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, who gave it a tighter, drier sound. The ten songs together last less than half an hour, played by Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King and Dave Lombardo. Opening track Angel of Death, with lyrics about German doctor Josef Mengele, caused controversy that led distributor Columbia to refuse the album, with Geffen taking over distribution. The album closes with Raining Blood, one of the band's best-known tracks. Reign in Blood is regarded as one of the benchmarks of 1980s thrash metal.
