Reign in Blood is the third studio album by Slayer, released in 1986. It was the band's first album for Def Jam and the first collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, who gave the album a tighter, drier sound. The ten songs run for under half an hour in total, performed by Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King and Dave Lombardo. Opening track Angel of Death, with lyrics about the German physician Josef Mengele, caused controversy that led distributor Columbia to refuse the album, after which Geffen took over distribution. The album closes with Raining Blood, one of the band's best-known songs. Reign in Blood is regarded as one of the landmark albums of 1980s thrash metal.
