Gish is the debut album by the American band The Smashing Pumpkins, released in 1991. It was produced by Butch Vig and combines alternative rock with psychedelic and dreamlike textures and dense layers of guitar. Frontman Billy Corgan wrote most of the songs and played many of the parts himself. Songs such as "I Am One", "Rhinoceros" and "Siva" show the alternation between restrained passages and heavy outbursts. The album laid the groundwork for the band's later breakthrough.
