Suede's debut album, originally released in 1993 on Nude Records, became the fastest-selling debut in the United Kingdom in almost a decade and went straight to number 1. Producer Ed Buller set Bernard Butler's glam rock guitars against Brett Anderson's theatrical, androgynous vocals. The Drowners, Metal Mickey and Animal Nitrate, the band's first top 10 hit, preceded the album, with So Young following afterwards. The album won the Mercury Music Prize.
