Phaedra was the first album Tangerine Dream made for Virgin Records and originally appeared in February 1974. It was recorded at The Manor in Oxfordshire, where the group worked with a large modular Moog for the first time. Its sequencer kept drifting out of tune, and that is exactly what produced the floating, pulsing sound that became their trademark. The title piece fills the whole of the first side, alongside shorter pieces such as Mysterious Semblance At The Strand Of Nightmares and Movements Of A Visionary. Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke and Peter Baumann reached the UK album chart with it without radio support, and the album has been regarded ever since as a cornerstone of what came to be called the Berlin School. Froese painted the cover image himself.

This edition is a 2-LP on orange vinyl, a Record Store Day pressing on 180 gram that also carries bonus material from the In Search Of Hades box.
