Rubycon consists of two long parts, each filling one side, and builds on the approach of Phaedra: pulsing Moog sequencers, mellotron, organ and prepared piano, stacked into waves that slowly change shape. Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke and Peter Baumann recorded it at The Manor in England. The album originally came out in 1975 on Virgin Records and reached the UK top twenty. Together with Phaedra and the live album Ricochet it forms the core of the run with which the group shaped the Berlin School.
