After the sprawl of Notes on a Conditional Form, The 1975 chose restraint for Being Funny in a Foreign Language: eleven songs made with Jack Antonoff alongside Matty Healy and George Daniel, recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire and Electric Lady Studios in New York. The band's fifth studio album originally appeared in October 2022 on Dirty Hit. Saxophone and piano sit further forward than guitar here, with Part of the Band as the most winding track and About You as the closing ballad. Happiness and I'm in Love with You point the other way, direct and aimed at the dancefloor.
