The Beatles are the most influential pop group of all time. In just ten years the Liverpool four, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, moved from straight-ahead rock and roll (Please Please Me, With the Beatles) to ever bolder studio work: the pop of Rubber Soul and Revolver, the psychedelia of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and the late masterpieces Abbey Road and Let It Be. Together with producer George Martin they rewrote what a pop record could be. Even after their break-up in 1970 their influence remained audible everywhere.
