Blurryface is the album that broke Twenty One Pilots through to a mass audience. Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun built it around the character Blurryface, the personification of insecurity and self-doubt, a figure that returned years later in the storyline of Trench, Scaled and Icy, and Clancy. Originally released in May 2015 through Fueled by Ramen, the album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and delivered three of the duo's biggest hits in 'Stressed Out', 'Ride', and 'Tear in My Heart'; 'Stressed Out' won the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in 2017. In 2018, according to the RIAA, Blurryface became the first album of the digital era with every track certified at least gold. Musically it jumps from the rap verses of 'Heavydirtysoul' and 'Lane Boy' to the ukulele pop of 'Tear in My Heart' and the reggae lilt of 'Ride'.
